I lost 4kg in 3 and half weeks on an aggressive mini-cut (78.8kg - 74.8kg), this is how, and why I did it. The purpose of this mini cut wasn’t to get really lean - I was just getting a bit fluffier than I would have liked, during my muscle building phase, coming into summer So I used it to just reduce a bit of body fat pre-summer, before quickly getting back into a muscle building phase. As this was only for a few weeks I was in a more aggressive deficit than normal - around a 900 calorie deficit. This deficit would lead to a rough fat loss of 0.8kg per week. So I potentially lost around 2.8kg of fat out of the 4kg of total bodyweight. The total loss would have been from a mixture of fat, glycogen, water, intestinal weight and potentially some muscle mass too. I ended up losing an average of 1.15kg of total bodyweight a week - which was around a 1.5% bodyweight loss each week, which is on the upper limit of how much I’d want to lose per week. At my weight and body fat, I wouldn’t want to be losing quicker than this, as it would risk losing more muscle. Luckily my deficit calories were still reasonably high at around 1900 But I didn’t do anything special to stick to this over the 3 week period - I just followed the usual principles of fat loss: 1. I ate mainly whole foods - focusing on high protein in each meal to keep me full and maintain muscle mass. 2. I drank no alcohol and only ate out once during the 3 week period. 3. I maintained a high training intensity in the gym, and only reduced my training volume slightly, near the end of the fat loss phase as my energy started to dip a little bit. 4. I didn’t add in any drastic cardio - I just kept my steps high and maintained my usual routine of very easy jogging for around 20-30 mins 1 or 2 times a week. After this I went into a week and half of maintenance and then got back into my muscle building phase Aggressive dieting is definitely not for everyone - but it can be a useful tool for some people, depending on the situation. But it’s good to be aware that this is possible, as rapid weight loss is often looked at as a bad thing. But done correctly it can be a useful tool to use.
