or just use the chain cleaner like a park tool cm 5.2. much easier and cleaner.

easier to take the chain off, drop it in an old plastic drink bottle with some degreaser and shake. the rinse and dry, then oil. get a better clean.

Instead of the Cleaner, you can also use Diesel oil. Much cheaper and same result.
