My dads family is distantly German but when someone speaks German I understand about 90% bc I’m Jewish & fluent in Yiddish 😂😂

My parents are Dutch. I always say I'm not from the Netherlands but my parents are. It's weird that people just flat out say they are.

That is a question about ethnicity versus nationality. Other countries tend to think of the question of what are you differently.

I moved from the US to Belgium, my last name is Belgian (from ancestors that left in 1800s) & ppl are very confused when I only speak English lol

I think it’s the way Americans are since it’s known as the land of immigrants. I don’t think most Americans are trying to say they’re from there.

EVERY TIME I’m in the US! I’m from Norway, and i switch to Norwegian too every time someone says “im Norwegian too”. Honestly, it’s very frustrating.

I think it’s cause as Americans we don’t have a real grasp of what it means to be German, French, etc and it causes people to feel left out.
