5 months sober from alcohol. A sentence I truly never thought I’d be saying. This month has been the most challenging one yet. I felt tested in ways I haven’t before, and I’ve had to sit with emotions I spent a long time avoiding or numbing. Instead of running from them, I’m learning how to actually feel them, work through them, and still stay true to myself. Sobriety has been such a roller coaster of emotions I didn’t even know existed. I thought the more time that passed, the easier it would get. But I’m realizing that maybe the real work begins now. Getting sober is one thing. Staying sober and learning how to live sober is another. In the beginning, everything seemed to change overnight. So many things started aligning for me back to back, and life was moving at lightning speed. I was accomplishing goals, experiencing huge wins, and constantly focused on what was coming next. Then things got quieter, and surprisingly the slower and more stable my life became, the more uncomfortable I started to feel. I found myself thinking, “Sooo… what’s next?” I’m learning that when you’ve been used to chaos for so long, peace can almost feel unfamiliar. There are still moments when I mourn pieces of my old life. I’m learning to have compassion for that version of myself instead of being ashamed of her. I can miss parts of what was familiar while still knowing I don’t want to go back. My goal for this next month isn’t another huge accomplishment. It’s finding peace and balance between full-time work, school, training, and simply allowing myself to enjoy the life I’ve worked so hard to create. I’m so proud of myself for continuing to choose “no,” even on the hard days. For choosing to feel instead of numb. For choosing my future over what’s familiar. 5 MONTHS DOWN, and even when sobriety feels difficult, I will forever be grateful that I chose it. ❤️‍🩹 🦋 #fyp #sober #sobriety
