Showing your work makes sense for feedback, but if the teacher actually means “show me that you can mimic MY work,” that’s when it becomes punishment

But it is punishment.My daughter can do it in her head! I came here to try to understand the teacher's reasoning. I think a child's mental health matters.

They could be guessing those answers aswell you used a bad example it's too easy for that to matter bc u can just use a calculator and get full marks

Some teachers hated when you used a different method, no matter how good the method was. I hated those teachers lol

I agree, the only problem i have with it is when you get every problem right bc you have a good process but you lose points bc you didn’t show it 1/2

I think it was in Discrete Mathematics that the professor awarded separate points for method and answer. It especially makes sense with that topic.

I agree but the only problem is that exams are so tight time wise that it is really difficult to do so

In the UK we don’t really show our working on calculator tests, only on the non calculator stuff

"justify your answer* becomes a lot easier if you've been showing your work as a habit, and *prove or disprove" comes more easily if you can do that

Even if i do “show my work” my teacher still wont provide help, such as when i was sick for 2/5 weeks all she did was give me 17 packets and didnt give me any way of understanding the work
