I was reading this book but had to stop when the male character became abusive and the wife stayed. I'm all for struggle love, BDSM in relationships, and all, but romanticizing abuse is where I draw the line. So many books I've stopped reading on Facebook and Visionary Writings because it felt like the author was romanticizing abuse. I don't usually read to take away something from a book, but if I do, it's usually something that helps me grow as a person, a change in perspective, or something positive. But the victim staying through abuse? It doesn’t matter if the abuser changes and becomes a better person—the fact that she stays through it all? Ay cha, I can’t. This is where my attachment issues don’t apply because with such stories, I detach quickly. Writers need to stop romanticizing abuse. I know it's a sensitive topic and should be touched on, but please, make the main character leave at the first sign of abuse. Normalize making the main character walk away at the first yelling, slap, punch on the wall near her face, etc. Making female characters weak for their abusers is really annoying. Some might argue that it's what’s happening around the world, and yes, it is, but that doesn't mean your story has to center around this one topic. Stop seeing women as weak and give them the strength they truly have. Women are so much more than damsels in distress. I need that kind of romance that leaves me feeling delulu. Writers, do better 🥺🙏🏽 #BookTok #ReadingRant #BooksOfTikTok #LiteraryPetPeeves #StopRomanticizingAbuse #TrendingNow #ReaderProblems
