Fraudulent Cashier’s checks are not a new thing. It happens a lot but if you catch it fast, you can usually get the funds back

That's a Reg CC violation for the bank to hold a cashier's check. They can get in a lot of trouble with their regulator.

You can call the issuing bank on the check. My husband got one and I told him to call the drawing bank. They confirmed it was fake

You can actually call the bank that issued it and confirm whether the cashier’s check is valid. They’ll just ask a few questions to verify.
