![🚨 [Sound On] 🚨 . Did you know that honey bees have their own unique royal language? . Queen bees communicate through a specific sound called piping, which can be described as a bleating, mewing, croaking, or honking noise. Piping is made by virgin queens while they’re in their cells or roaming freely in the colony, and it’s surprisingly loud! . Interestingly, queen piping is used as a signal between rivals. It’s believed that the sound is a way for virgin queens to indicate they’re ready to fight for the honor of being the only queen in the hive. When workers hear the sound, they may try to keep the virgins separate to have more than one queen available if needed. . Even mated queens pipe when they’re released into a colony, signaling that they’re ready to lead the hive. It’s a rare sound but when it happens, it’s truly fantastic! Musically inclined folks say queen piping is a G-sharp or A-flat, and it lasts for about one second followed by quarter-second pulses. Queens still in their cells make short pulses without the long toot, which is referred to as quacking. .
