I'm a member of NSHSS and I honestly have gained a lot of from it. We get access to resources, opportunities, programs, scholarships, etc. and the true benefit comes in what you make of it. Being an idle member won't be impressive or prestigious, but using what is offered is the most valuable part. There is also a fee waiver available, for those who are interested!
