It’s a hormonal thing, the hens temp literally goes higher. So the science, is it cools them down. You can give them an aspirin to cool them as well

You can break a broody by putting them in a bit of cool water - just let them sit in the water and make sure it covers up to their belly.

My mother and grandmother have dunked broody hens in a bucket of cool water to break their brood and it would work!

U and ur girls did great. Fertilized eggs should not be washed or shaken. It should be collected and given to the chickens without being disturbed.

Hens will brood themselves into starvation sometimes. We had a turkey hen like that. She’d steal eggs and not come off the nest for any reason. 🥺
