I don't think Vecna took will becuase the day the gate opened was the day will went missing.we know this becuase in season 4 in Nancy's room her room was stuck in time and diary should have been full of entries but the last entry was the day will went missing so the day the gate opened. And in season 4 when Nancy was stuck in the waking nightmare/trance Vecna explained how when eleven opened the gate for him, he wandered around until he found this home and stuff so how would he suddenly be at wills door. But also we know that after this incident with eleven putting Vecna into the upside down, Dr. Brenner/Papa kept eleven to run tests and experiment and stuff so how would she end up at Benny's in season 1 and how would Mike, Dustin, and Lucas find her the day after will goes missing. Something doesn't make sense here

There is a possibility of your theory but it’s likely that that is a demogorgon because remember how vecnas left hand is bigger than his right hand that shows that this couldn’t be vecna but a demogorgon would make sense here because it is skinny and the head looks like the mouth is closed
