Today we are back and I am showing you just how easy it is to grow your own potatoes at home, in small DIY containers. The best part is, if you plant them now, they will be ready just in time for Christmas lunch! Potatoes are one of, if not the easiest crop to grow. If grown in containers, they take up hardly any room, they are not too fussy about soil, watering, sunlight or temperature. Obviously the better these conditions are the better the crop will be, but unlike some plants, it’s not make or break! Now is a great time to plant seed potatoes, to let the grow and harvest for Christmas. Potatoes grown now will be perfect little new potatoes, served for friends and family, and for me that’s part of the fun. When it comes to growing them, I like to grow in a good peat free compost and let the rain take care of the watering. If it is a long dry spell I will water once every four days. Also it’s important to note, the more room they have to grow, the bigger they will be. If you space them closer together, you will maybe get more, but smaller potatoes. One question a lot of people have is can you use potatoes from the supermarket? Simple answer is yes and no. Yes it is possible, and in theory will work. But to prevent the spread of diseases, and to guarantee a good harvest, I recommend using seed potatoes from the garden centre. They have been specially stored all summer, making them ideal for planting now. I hope you are all having a lovely week, let me know if you are going to try this, and thank you for watching. Joe 😊🌱🙏 #potatoes #growingpotatoes #containergardening #gardentips #Sustainability #zerowaste
