You definitely should have it professionally sanded and refinished… that’s the only way to remove the topmost layer overall

Try rejuvenate. You can get it at Home Depot or lowes or any hardware store. Just spread it on and let it dry. Shiny floors. It’s awesome.

I have seen people clean with Murphy's oil soap, then use Howard's Restor-a-Finish to help the floors. Ours are due for sand/refinish, too. 🥺

ive done this at my childhood home myself! also built in the ‘40s. we rented a floor sander, restained and polished them! it’s not as intimidating 1/2

Nice work!! Go to lowes and try “rejuvenate”. It helped us SO much. That wood is thirsty.
