📱It’s been 4+ years since my partner and I have slept with our phones in our bedroom. Here are a few of the benefits & HOW to make this happen: 1. Better sleep = less irritability. This is a research proven fact…blue light before bed and first thing in the morning is. not. good. for. your. health. It increases anxiety and decreases sleep quality - both of which things HIGHLY impact your mood and therefore your relationship with your partner. 2. Bedroom = safe haven. Make your bedroom a safe space from the outside world. A space where you know you’ll have your partner’s attention, where you can expect to be listened to and looked at. We need to protect our relationships from the ever present outside forces that suck us in. 3. Better & increased s*x. If you’re not scrolling…you might as well be doing something else! Also can we talk about how nice it is to be intimate WITHOUT being worried that you’ll hear 432 texts come through and feel like your partner’s phone is more important than you? 4. Less scrolling = more time talking and more eye contact. Both of which increase connection, especially if you are busy and have very little time to be together during the day. Spend what little time you do have, together! How to make this happen: - Choose a spot in the house and plug your phones in there every night before you go to bed. Even if you go to bed at different times, you can still reap some of the benefits of this. - Sleep with an alarm clock or a smartwatch nearby if you’re really worried about missing something important. Smart watches are great because you can quickly check messages if needed but you’re not going to spend 30+ minutes staring at that tiny screen, it’s just enticing. - Practice. It may take a few days or few weeks to adjust to falling asleep a different way. While you’re transitioning, try drinking some calming tea before bed or reading a book to help you feel tired.
