Childhood cavities are the number one childhood disease so I am super passionate about pediatric oral health! Setting your child up to have good oral health habits is soo important!! My top tips: 1. Make brushing teeth FUN!! When my son was younger I’d say “which one is your favorite tooth?!” Then I’d say “my favorite tooth is the one way in the back!! Can I show you?” That way he’d open really wide for me! 2. Sometimes having them lay on the floor is easier than standing up (especially when they’re under 1 year old). Introducing a toothbrush can happen even before your baby has teeth! 3. ALWAYS use a soft bristle toothbrush so you don’t hurt their gums! 4. Avoid using too much toothpaste by using only a small amount (as shown in my video). Little ones aren’t able to spit out any excess so we never want to use a lot of toothpaste at once. I always recommend having your little one see a dentist by age 1-1.5 to get them used to the environment and all the sounds of a dental office! That first visit is usually super fun and quick and provides a lot of patient education for the parents!
