Pumping and storing breastmilk while you’re travelling can get a little bit tricky, so it is important to be prepared 📝
✅ Make sure that you pack all of your pumping essentials and bottles with you close by to make pumping and storing the milk easier when you’re on the go. Using the OG Pump to express, in combination with the Haakaa Silicone Storage Bags, is a great way to safely express and store your milk.
✅ Print out a copy of your country’s storage guidelines so that you can easily refer to it when you’re out. If you are in Australia, the Australian Breastfeeding
Association guidelines state that breastmilk can remain in room temperature for 6-8 hours (at 26°C or lower) before needing to be kept in a fridge for up to 72
hours. It is important to know your storage guidelines so that you know how soon after expressing you would need to freeze your milk.
✅ Most hotels will have deep freezers that they will allow you to use to store your expressed breastmilk if needed. However, they will need your breastmilk to be
very clearly labelled on the bottle as well as in a freezer bag so that there is no confusion as to what the milk is and who it belongs to. It can be helpful to contact your hotels prior to your travel to find out exactly what they require in terms of helping you store your breastmilk.
✅ If you are transporting this frozen milk to another hotel, it is important to try and keep it frozen in an esky with lots of ice bricks. Keep in mind that if the milk does start to defrost, it can’t be refrozen. This means that it may need to be kept in the fridge and used sooner than you expected it to.
✅ If you do happen to thaw too much milk along the travel and you won’t be able to use it to feed your baby, you can use this milk in the bath for baby. That way you aren’t wasting your precious milk. 🎥✍️ by @onemamamidwife follow her for more informative content! #haakaa #haakaanz #travelwithbaby #mumblog #protips #pumpingonthego
