My cat does this also when smelling, eating, and playing. Idk why he does it. It’s like when he is interested in something and smelling or biting it he shakes his head.

Ic can be due to the bowl , i advkce using a plate for earing cus their wiskers are very sensitive

cats do that but maybe it’s because the bowl is to small its really sensitive for there wiskers so maybe try a bigger bowl
