Here’s how to predict your MS fall risk in seconds 👇 The Timed Up and Go test (TUG for short) is used in MS research studies and physical therapy appointments to predict fall risk in people with MS. It can help you figure out if your fall risk is high, low, or somewhere in between🚶‍♀️ The TUG test results (in addition to medical history, other symptoms, and other testing) is how we determine the right exercises to improve your balance, strength, and walking while reducing your fall risk. While it’s typically done in a physical therapist's or neurologist's office, you can use a modified version at home to track your progress 🙌 All you need is a chair, an open room, and a mobility aid (if you normally use one). Here’s how it works: 1️⃣ Stand up from a chair 2️⃣ Walk 10 feet 3️⃣ Turn around 4️⃣ Walk back and sit down If you use a mobility aid, make sure to use it every time you do the test. And here's how to interpret the results: ✅ 10 seconds or less = low fall risk ⚠️ 11-20 seconds = moderate fall risk 🚨 30+ seconds = high fall risk It's also important to track things like: -- If you tripped (& how often) -- The quality of your walking -- If you used a mobility aid (because you may not always need one as you get stronger!) -- If you used an AFO or electrical stimulation device Tracking these things will allow you to see truer progres over time vs. tracking JUST the time it took. If you’ve been using MS-specific exercises for balance and walking, this test is a great way to track your progress and see if they’re making a difference. Will you try it out? Let me know in the comments! 💬 And if you want to see a demo of this, check it out in my free
