If the strap is double sided (it looks like it is) seam-rip the two sides apart, sew them into individual straps 1/2 the width, and bam. Two straps.

could you take a single strap from the middle of the back and connect it to the loop so it pulls the loop more so it doesn't cause strain??

I respect and relate to the tall person challenge, so many things avoided due to halter. I say add two long straps, just use the neck strap elsewhere

You could cut the denim straps in half, at them bavk of the neck, then sew on elastic straps to the denim straps, like suspenders.
