The DVL-909 will also play CDs, CD-V, and DVD. Single layer DVD works much better than dual layer. A dual layer may hang at the layer change.

Find some CDVs (not VCDs) from 1988, they are gold in color. Most are PAL though so they might not display on a US laserdisc player.

The pioneer DVL - 909 can play DVDs if the laser is not burned out. That player was immensely expensive when it came out in 1999
