Williams F1 team on TV once literaly explained the engine is so tight starting it up from cold would be nearly impossible..... I mean they would know.

sprintcar engines pre heat their blocks, because they run aluminium blocks.

My wife does this with the kettle, books it up, then again just before she needs it.

NASCAR engines use the same process of pre-heating the sump tank, then they remove the oil pump belt and turn it with a drill to circulate

F1 v10's had very tight tolerances, they wouldnt start without being preheated

Metal expands when hot... thus clearances are at PEAK when hot. Starting cold would mean clearances are larger therefore have more room to run.. lol

It is the case on 410 sprint car engines. It will turn over but the piston to valve clearance is zero.

I know no one will probably see this but do you think I could put a pre-heater for my engine oil in my 1hdt and it would help

standby diesel generators often have a coolant heater. they would start up and potentially take full load in a matter of seconds

Wouldn’t the clearances be smaller at temperature as things expand?

Modern day engines maybe. But I have worked on several f1 engined hill climb cars where they need heat to gain tolerance for both piston ring & valves

loggers used to t into their heater hoses on trucks so they could spit swap with their equipment. use the truck to heat the skidder.
