It was March something 1992. I was 10 years old and my sister had just turned 9. We were playing in front of our home when military started shooting at the house. Dad arranged that we be transported to our grandmother’s house in the village later that day. The house was about 20 min away. We spent that month playing outside while hearing bombs, missiles and watching smoke behind a hill that separated us from our home. Mom and dad showed up sometime in April with our elementary school teacher, teacher’s mother and our dog. Mom had a few photos she brought with her. Dad was wearing a uniform and had several guns & grenades on him. He spent the night and was gone after that. I remember going to 4th grade in the village but I don’t think I ever finished it. Our teacher and her mom were with us and I remember her teaching us, but there is no official record of me ever finishing the 4th grade. I often wonder what happened to most of my elementary school classmates. I have seen some of them since then but that is a minority. If you know of anyone who went to 19. April Elementary School in Derventa, Bosnia in the early 1990s, please tag them/share this. I would love to re-connect.
