Are you sure you’re ovulating? 🥚 Signs your body is ovulating mid-cycle are real and worth paying attention to, but they do not confirm ovulation actually happened. Here is what to look for in the lead up: - Cervical mucus becomes clear, stretchy and slippery, similar to raw egg white, in the days before ovulation - A positive ovulation predictor kit (OPK) shows an LH surge is happening, which triggers ovulation but does not confirm it occurred - Some women notice a one-sided twinge or mild cramping around mid-cycle - Libido often increases around ovulation, this is biology doing its job - Basal body temperature rises slightly after ovulation and stays elevated, confirmed only in hindsight The problem with relying on symptoms and OPKs alone is that your body can attempt ovulation and not complete it. You can have an LH surge with no egg released. This is more common than most people realise, particularly with PCOS, under-fuelling and thyroid issues. The only way to confirm ovulation actually occurred is a Day 21 serum progesterone blood test, or more accurately, a test taken 7 days after your LH surge if your cycle is not a standard 28 days. A result above 30 nmol/L confirms ovulation happened. Below that and your body either did not ovulate or the corpus luteum did not produce enough progesterone to sustain it. If you have never had this test done, it is worth requesting. It is one of the most informative and underutilised tests in fertility investigation. Are you tracking your cycle? Let me know where you are at below. #pregnancy #fertility #ovulation #pregancytips #pcos
