When I lived abroad I paid off my iPhone and used a SIM card in that country. And kept a cheap phone plan. But paying off a phone is $$$

See if you can get the unlimited data. That’s what I have and I just use WhatsApp for everything. I lived in South Africa for 5 years on that plan 😂
