@josh_ffw: I appreciate this isn’t an easy conversation to have, maybe this is especially true online, but I think it’s important. I’m not saying this is easy, and I am a big advocate for seeing your parents as the flawed human beings that they are. I also truly believe that for some, doing this can allow you to have incredibly beautiful relationships with parents that previously you struggled with…. This is even part of the work in Inner You. BUT….and it’s a massive ‘but’…. That’s not the case for everyone. It’s complex and messy and for some, the options are way smaller. Some people, and I know this is hard to hear for some, have horrible parents. And these people can often be fed the message online that because they are unable to have a relationship with them, they lack spirituality or need to do more work. No. Stop. Some of the strongest people I know have spent their ENTIRE LIFE trying to love and be loved by a mum or a dad or both that are in the simplest of terms horrible and the only chance they have of freedom is to make the most horrendously difficult decision to cut ties and finally give themselves a chance. These people aren’t making knee jerk decisions. They are not made in a snap and then forgotten about. These people live with it daily regardless and have people telling them their decision is wrong without any idea what it’s like to live their life. Life is too short to hold grudges against loved ones for their mistakes or shortcomings and it’s also too short to allow people to repeatedly pull you down because society tells you that you only get one mum and dad. If you’re one those people that’s put your self first because it’s only option, those people who can’t let you have that, those people who want to push their experiences onto your life…..they’re not more spiritual than you and they haven’t ‘done the work better’. I see you and I commend you for putting yourself first in a world that doesn’t want to give you that right ❤️ #toxicparent #estrangedparents #emotionalabusesurvivor
