The self-declared @mcdsg connoisseur is back! 🍔 McDonald’s just launched a seasonal Black Pepper Filet-O-Fish burger, and here’s my take: Instead of tartar sauce, it’s topped with a black pepper cheese sauce, as well as shredded lettuce. First impression: It resembles the previous Nacho Cheese Filet-O-Fish burger. The black pepper cheese sauce adds a mild peppery, smoky flavour that took a while to hit me. It’s not at all spicy (at least for me), and I like how it gives a creamy, cheesy texture without being overwhelming.

The shredded lettuce felt like it wasn’t really there and I think there wasn’t enough sauce to give it a distinct taste. If you’re ordering in-store, I’d suggest requesting extra sauce. The most important question: Is it better than the original burger? Honestly, I don’t think so but I’m biased because I love the tangy flavors of their tartar sauce. However, I really enjoyed this rendition of the Filet-O-Fish, and you’ll definitely see me ordering it again, especially since it’s seasonal.
