The truth about working remotely 👀 Save this post if you’re thinking about how you can work remotely as a pastry chef👩🏼🍳 What is it like to work remotely on a different continent, as a pastry chef and business owner? This is my experience! As many of you know, I spent two months in Cape Town working remotely. I’ve never done this before and I’m used to just working in my own kitchen. So I actually didn’t know if I would be able to do my work 😄 But I saw it as a learning opportunity, as I in general love to travel for work and like to be flexibility in terms of where I can work from. This is what I did while working there: - I created recipes and pastry content for my Instagram and website, like I normally do. In order to do so, I brought a full large suitcase of equipment and my recording equipment (tripod & camera - I had to buy a white photo background there). - I created content for my brand partnerships clients - Had meetings with my pastry consulting clients - Engaged in local partnerships with @silwoodkitchen where I hosted a lecture about my business, and @amyfoundationsa where I also hosted a lecture + a buttercream workshop. This is what I learned: - What baking equipment I actually need. I purposely only brought exactly what I know I use, but I also undervalued the importance of a few things I didn’t bring. So, I noted down what I used and didn’t use so I know for next time 🙏🏼 - Load shedding and the importance of a good freezer: Learn how to work around the load shedding and find a kitchen where you (if possible) can regulate the freezer - That you may not be able to get all ingredients. For instance, if was difficult for me to find hazelnuts and frozen raspberries which is something I’m used to just buy at the supermarket. For next time, I would research what local baking ingredients I might not be able to get and bring them myself. All in all: An amazing experience! Would I do it again? 100% 🇿🇦❤️ #digitalnomad #selfemployed #remotework #chocolatedecoration #pastrychef #cakedecorating #cakedesign #pastry #cakeart #patisserie #cakeinspiration #mirrorglaze #pastrycheflife
