This is why I never had a routine. My kids naps and bedtime just happened when they needed it. Never on a schedule. It’s less stressful.

my brother was talking about his routines, and the complete lack, and saying in a lot of ways it's been helpful to be a bit all over the place.

It depends on the kid of course, but some kids can gain more flexibility in their scheduling needs as they get a bit older. It doesn’t last forever

I am not a routine person but without one my children were an absolute wreck. I came to enjoy it but it was an adjustment for me.

sometimes throwing the schedule out the window helps. sometimes it causes more stress. sometimes offloading/sharing duties helps...
