@nicoleharkinmd: 🎯How to lower LDL cholesterol - diet here is king. Unfortunately, while super important for our overall cardiovascular health, exercise doesn’t move the needle much when it comes to LDL-c (or apo B) The biggest dietary changes we can make include 🫘Eating more fiber, especially soluble fiber. Soluble fiber is particularly high in oats, barely, beans, and lots of fruits and veggies 🥛Plant proteins. Soy has been particularly well studied (think unsweetened soy milk, edamame, tofu, tempeh) but other plant proteins like beans, lentils are also probably effective 🥜 Nuts. Aim for one handful a day 💊 Plant stanols and sterols. Usually provided in the form of supplements or fortified products. I’ll cover this more in detail in another post 📖 These foods used in combination at the right doses can be as effective as a low dose statin in controlled trials.
