@belightcare: Sometimes people with dementia are afraid to fall in the shower because they have in the past. Even with short term memory loss, that fear can persist. Or maybe they haven’t fallen but they have an acute awareness of the limitations of their body during movement. Convincing them that they won’t fall isn’t an easy feat. Sometimes people with dementia don’t want assistance when they absolutely need it because of a neurocognitive symptom called anosognosia. This isn’t denial - it is a direct result of the disease affecting the part of the brain responsible for being self-aware. They can’t be convinced that they aren’t able to do it on their own and they will not do it if you’re around. Installing a piece of equipment like this provides security and support in a non-confrontational way. Maybe the only reason you go into the bathroom with them iis to ensure their safety while they precariously make that step over the threshold of the tub. With this piece of equipment, you can allow them a little bit more independence and space. This is called the Signature Life Sure Stand Security Pole by Stander. We bought 2 poles, $125 each. Worth 3x that! Or more! But I can’t find the attachments. They look intriguing. Anyone know where?

And with the cheeky ones you can normalize it by making jokes. In all seriousness that can make a difference

I have a weird question. I am assuming that my husband (62yrs) and myself (55yrs) will get dementia. how do we plan for this?

Does dementia cause mobility issues? Or is that old age?

This is awesome for people with early to mid stage dementia. And awesome with other mobility issues where cognitive function is in tact.
