The Qur'an speaks of the expansion of the heaven/universe (51:47), the heavens and earth being joined and then separated (21:30), "…And We made from water every living thing. Then will they not believe?" (21:30), human development in stages (22:5), the sun and moon moving in their courses (21:33, 36:40), mountains as firmly placed structures (78:6–7), iron being sent down (57:25) and rain bringing life to the earth (16:65). What are the chances an illiterate man in the desert knew all this? No! Indeed, this is a revelation from the Lord of all worlds, Allah. In Qur'anic Arabic, "the heavens" refers to the heavens or realms above the earth. Depending on the context, it can refer to the visible sky, the celestial realm or the broader created order above.
