I’m no expert but I’ve seen people tape it off before they used the cnc or laser. Then paint and then pull the tape of. Regardless that looks nice.

Try using rattle can clear coat, and just on your letters. No need to cover the whole piece. It sands off really easy also.

Use the good for sandblasting to cover the wood. peeling is a beck of a lot less work. that's what we did in my family sign shop

My patternn evolved to: shellac, mask, cut, shellac 2x, paint, shellac, peel. works great even with porous woods.

I currently use spray Lacquer to seal before painting. and use a brush with acrylic craft paint. not as fast as spray paint. but less mess

I would have just brush painted that shit then a light sand after. but I'm not a professional... so maybe this looks better in the end

shellac tends to get gummy when sanding. you could try vinyl sealer. might sand a little better
