Spray the copper with a solution of salt water and then place the copper in a container suspended over non detergent ammonia (don't let it touch!)

People use vinegar to clean their copper sinks and remove the patina. I would try things that don’t have a vinegar base

Search brass Ager on Amazon. I bought this stuff years ago and it definitely worked on unlaquered brass. It looks like it may work on copper.

you need sulfuric acid to make copper sulfate on the surface but idk if you can clean and seal after

salt water and air. you won't get the oxidation by soaking it, put it near salt water without letting it sit in salt water.
