i can’t help but disagree and wonder if we read the same book. nona was a delight and a refreshing change in pace and tone and we got to learn so much

Same. It reads kinda like a typical SFF novel. Which is fine but not what I expect from this series.

These critiques are super valid! I felt some more attachment to her but the John chapters were the meatiest and could have been a novella themselves

John chapters felt like a super clunky way to fill in the backstory of how the world ended. Felt like Muir was stretching it out to fluff up the pg #s

I agree. I found myself not caring at all about Nona or the kids and mostly enjoying the later chapters, and John's chapters.
