we don't typically use em but I did see one at a house but it was same level as neighbors which were fine not below the main so idk why it was instal

We call them none return valves here in the uk, also a company here made one that stops rats and pushes tight into the pipe

Also the second floor level is not allowed to be on the back water valve level, second floor hast to tie in before the back water valve.
