Recently, I keep seeing articles describing English Pointers as an “unloved breed” and even suggesting they could disappear altogether as their popularity continues to decline. It breaks my heart to think that while the breed struggles for recognition back home, so many are already sitting here at the shelter, waiting for someone to see their worth. They’re affectionate. Loyal. Intelligent. They live to be close to people. Yet day after day, they watch other dogs leave while they remain. Sometimes I wonder are they destined to grow old in these shelters simply because they’re English Pointers? Every single one of them deserves the chance to run through fields instead of pacing concrete. To sleep on a sofa instead of a shelter floor. To know what it feels like to belong to someone. This breed is constantly overlooked, yet they would give someone the world if they could. Please don’t scroll past them. Share their stories. Talk about the breed. Consider adoption. Because somewhere in that shelter is an English Pointer who has spent far too long waiting for the life they’ve always deserved. We have so many English Pointers in the shelter, some of them are also discounted or have the opportunity to come in to UK foster.
