The timing sounds off to me, if it’s backfiring like that I would think it’s the timing or the spark plug if the porcilin is cracked

your ignition timing is off. Probably the flywheel key or the coil installed wrong.

put a tube on the air vent on the carb bowl and blow air into it while pulling the rope. works Amazing on old Bikes.
