@yogiflightschool: Yoga Philosophy 101: Yamas Ahimsa / Non-Violence The first of the five yamas is ahimsa, meaning non-violence. It asks us, where are we being violent in our lives? Are we being violent with our words, our actions, to other people, to animals, to ourselves in our yoga practice? Take a moment to sit with that today. Ask yourself where you are being unkind to yourself, to others, or the world. Think of a small commitment you can make to SHIFT this today & moving forward. I find the precepts of yoga very beautiful; it's a truly incredible philosophy of life. I don't kill any animals, not even cockroaches, spiders, or scorpions. Whenever one appears in my house, I remove it with a jar or sweep it away with a broom. This is because all animals have lives, and we don't have the right to remove them just because we don't like them. Even if they're disgusting, they have a life and feel pain. We, as rational beings, have a duty to preserve the lives of all irrational animals because they're not guilty of anything; they're just living their lives. And, well, I'm not telling you to sleep with an insect, but you can remove it without harming it. Do you also prefer to remove cockroaches and spiders?
