The Crimean Bridge Explosion Explained 💥 #Crimea #Russia #Ukraine #War #News 🗣️ On Saturday morning, the Crimean Bridge connecting Crimea to mainland Russia partially collapsed following an explosive attack. The bridge, also known as the Kerch Bridge, was completed in 2018, being the primary mode of transportation between mainland Russia and Crimea, replacing the previous ferry system. The attack, apparently carried out by the Security Service of Ukraine, caused a partial collapse of the roadway, neutralising one half of the road. The explosion also caused damage to the railway, with a train catching fire. It is unclear whether the explosion was caused by a truck bomb or some other form of explosive. As a result of the attack, road traffic will be substantially reduced until it can be repaired, and the rail section will need to be replaced and the damaged train removed. [Reports indicate that this is already occurring, with road traffic already resumed and rail to resume in the evening or next morning] A special advisor to the Ukrainian president announced that the attack on Crimea was “the beginning.” On the same day, a fuel station and railway track in Ilovaisk, Donetsk, was attacked in a HIMARS strike by Ukraine. In response, Russia announced a relaunching of its ferry lines between Crimea and the mainland while the road gets repaired, however the undamaged part of the bridge has been reopened to cars and buses according to the Head of Crimea. Russia has also begun sending repair trains to repair the railway which is expected to be completed by tonight according to the Russian Ministry of Transport. The bridge was one of two major rail links left into Kherson, which has significant military importance as Russia relies heavily on rail transport for its military supply.
