This sounds like science fiction, but Project Orion was a real spacecraft concept. Instead of burning conventional rocket fuel, the proposed system would release a series of nuclear explosions behind the spacecraft. Each explosion would push against a massive plate, creating thrust and accelerating the vehicle. The idea was theoretically powerful enough to make extremely fast deep-space travel possible — including reaching Mars in a matter of weeks. It was never developed into an operational spacecraft, but the concept remains one of the most extreme ideas ever explored in rocket engineering. Would you trust a spacecraft powered this way? 👀 Follow @dweetle for more technology, engineering, and ideas that sound impossible but were actually real. DM us for credit or removal.
