@storagereview: We're hands-on for the first time with Dell's new Compression Attached Memory Module (CAMM) in a Precision 7670. This is a progression for DDR and potentially a replacement for SODIMMs if CAMM is able to catch on. Dell is fully committed though and will be including CAMM in more notebooks and other small systems. We wanted to see how easy it is to replace the CAMM module and get a better look at the connector. Six screws, pretty easy to access and swap if need be. Once more DRAM fabs spin up CAMM, it should be an easy field-service fix. If you’re thinking, what is CAMM? We have a detailed article coming out this week. #dell #camm #dram #sodimm #memory #computers #tech #technology #techtok #laptops #storagereview

Oh good more proprietary Dell stuff

Reminds me of the late 80s and early 90s when notebook memory was proprietary. better than soldered on but I still prefer a standard sodimm.

seems to me like a reason for dell to sell a proprietary technology at an insane markup.... how much space is that really saving? don't look like much

cool a new piece of tech Dell releases and then never supports. Looking at you upgradable GPU for the Alienware 51m.

I’m looking forward to CAMM, and can’t wait for other companies to adopt it. Higher density/footprint and significantly faster!

dell likes to make things hard to upgrade!

what dell really wants to do is make it super hard and expensive to upgrade the laptop

larger but thinner and less bulky than placing multiple sodimm sockets in a laptop, actually kinda like this idea

1/2how will these CAMM modules and sockets deal with dust over time?

But the module seems very large compared to sodimm!

it's patented by Dell, I don't see Lenovo et al paying a license fee for this.

Makes sense. If it works for CPUs it’ll work for ram.

it will be interesting to see a comparison against lpddr dram slots. I don't think it is that smaller. How much smaller is it?

devices aren't really getting bigger screens and being thinner, lest they become flexible...
