@storagereview: Adding a 32GB DRAM kit to our Synology DS1821+ to see if that helps us get past the 108TB volume size limit. Never ran into this until we filled with 22TB HDDs. #synology #hdd #wd #data #Tech #storagereview

It's a well known and documented limitation. x64 CPUs can only handle 108tb LUNs

If the 22TB would be the peak of the Hard drive size, would the industry change the size of the 3.5 to much larger to accommodate for larger volume?

This is documented. Some models go to 200TB volumes with more ram, but this one does not.

I own the DS1819+ and thought about the DS517 expansion for another 5x10TB. With 12 drives (1 spare) I'd also hit the limit. Has anyone tried that?

The limitations is probably in the cluster size. Or the on board GUID handling. Nothing you can do anything about. Because if its 2^31 instead of 32

LVM extent size=16GB gives maximum volume of 1,048,544 GB. XFS gives 8 exbibytes file system size. 😳😂
