u wil waste far less caulk if u stop applying it to the final 5 inches. That way when u spread/smooth it, the excess will fill in the ends fully.

And NEVER use white silicone or grout in a bathroom. Guess what - it never stays white ! I always use gray like you.

Watch some youtube and learn how to caulk properly and you can learn how to caulk properly and also won’t waste caulk like that.
