It may at first seem like a great option for an interest free loan, but I can promise you the company (merchants included) are not doing this out of the goodness of their hearts. "but Nicole, I'm not paying any interest when I use Afterpay, isn't it better than using my credit card?" Sure, but if it's a purchase of something you don't actually need using money you don't have, this is hurting you not helping you. It's like "buy now, pain later". Why? Because users of services like Afterpay are more likely to: ➡️ spend money they don't have ➡️ overspend ➡️ put their accounts into overdraft (and those fees can be a double whammy) And if you happen to miss a payment? Some of these service have a 30% late payment fee. Think that won't be you? 42% of buy now pay later customers make at LEAST one late payment. There's a reason why the buy now pay later industry is being investigated Federally... If you find yourself overspending, know that this can be a symptom of something bigger: 😭 like hiding from feelings you don't want to face 😭 feelings of restriction 😭 feelings of unworthiness or not being good enough This is why the first step to changing your shopping habits is getting to the root cause of the problem, so you can rewrite your money scripts and start making different choices.
