We can absolutely correct behavior without the use of punishments. Logical consequences are part of a respectful approach to discipline. I always see people say stuff like, “You need to lay down the law so they know when you’re serious!” I’m always serious when it comes to the limits I set. And maybe that’s the problem — maybe that’s why you feel you have to spank and yell. Your kids don’t take you seriously until you resort to a violent attitude, because you don’t think authority can be established without fear and shame. And, therefore, your kids don’t find you authoritative *until* you start threatening or doling out punishments. Do you find it easier to think of punishments than logical consequences? If so, that makes sense: There are many ways to punish a child for a behavior, but there are only a few related, logical consequences for any one situation. #positivediscipline #gentleparenting #respectfulparenting #positiveparenting #peacefulparenting
