Yesterday I posted about my fertility journey and my success story. As I reflected yesterday I realized not everyone has success, sometimes there are multiple reasons to stop. Dropout from fertility treatment, did you know the number is high?? A number of studies have shown that the dropout rate from IVF (in vitro fertilization) treatment can be as high as 20-30% after the first cycle, and it can increase cumulatively with subsequent cycles. In some cohorts, up to 50% or more of patients discontinue treatment without achieving a live birth. The reasons for discontinuation are varied and can include: • Emotional and psychological stress • Financial constraints (IVF and other fertility treatments can be expensive, especially in countries or regions without insurance coverage or public funding for such treatments) Receiving advice from medical professionals to stop due to low chances of success • Relationship strain or breakup • Personal or philosophical reasons • Treatment complications or perceived side effects • Achieving pregnancy without further treatment Did you know I actually stopped for a year before we had rayyan? It was a cumulation of these reasons. We went back eventually but needed that break!
