@museumofscience: How did the moon form? 🌕 The Giant Impact Hypothesis suggests that the moon was formed as a result of the collision of Earth and another object known as Theia. There are a few issues with this theory, including that it can’t fully account for the mystery of the missing pieces of Theia. But one theory that helps explain this (but only partially) is that the Moon formed very quickly after the collision. Like…very quickly, potentially only a few hours. This goes a long way to explaining the Moon’s structure and orbit as we see it today.
