Accept them as they are. I get that you wish they were different. I wish they were different too. But wishing they were different than they are only leads to disappointment and frustration. Better to accept what you have and make the best of it. 2. See their potential. Yes, they’re not what you hoped for but there’s still a lot of value they can add to you and your team. Find it and leverage it. 3. Fill the gaps with other solutions. Look, if your boss doesn’t openly appreciate you, then learn to appreciate yourself. If your boss isn’t great about advocating for you, find another stakeholder that will. Your boss isn’t a one-stop-shop for everything you need in your career.
