This week alone, I've come across numerous distressing accounts from fellow professionals navigating perplexing directives and mandates that delve deep into personal territories, ranging from managers pressed to discern employees' race, ethnicity, or gender identity to unsettling boasts about reporting colleagues to ICE, and even ICE's attempts to raid our workplaces and schools. While my aim has always been to uplift, educate, and entertain, I am equally committed to addressing the significant social and political upheavals affecting us as a community. Avoiding political discourse might seem like a shield, but in reality, it's a veil of privilege. Politics shape our lives, and from what I've seen, those who claim detachment are often those least affected by the policies in question. We've long heard that political discourse has no place on platforms like LinkedIn. Yet, when our basic Civil, Constitutional, and Human rights are threatened, staying silent becomes complicity in oppression. As a person of color, I sometimes feel unease and fear, not primarily for myself, but for my wife, a first-generation Latina, and for our extended family. Despite following every legal avenue to citizenship, they face judgment and harassment simply for their appearance and language. It's a harrowing reality that weighs heavily on my heart. No matter its size, my platform is a beacon for good, an echo of support for those who can't voice their struggles. I stand for justice, fight for the disadvantaged, and recognize my privilege in doing so. To my network, know this: I see you, I stand with you, and you are never alone. -Oscar from LinkedIn 🫶🏽
