@leadershipmel: The biggest misconception when it comes to delegation is that it saves you time. It doesn’t. Delegation is not at all about saving you time. When you’re a leader, you use delegation to build the capacity of your team. Delegation takes about the same amount of time as if you were doing the project yourself. But instead of doing the work, what you’re doing is investing time in your people. In fact, outside of the 1 or 2 projects you have for your own growth, the goal is that you delegate everything else. And you might be thinking… wait, my team’s not ready for all these projects… that’s where the leadership comes in. You explain the objectives, You’re giving them clear parameters for success, your answers questions, your clear the path for them, your meeting with them to see how things are going…. And even though it takes more time… your investing in building the capacity, creating critical thinkers, and creating a team that can get you better and better results.
